Director

Dr Mohammed Rizwan
(2024–Present)

Dr Rizwan holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Master’s degree in Sociology. He brings nearly two decades of teaching and academic experience across national and international universities.

He is currently the Director of the Centre for Study and Research (CSR), New Delhi, and also serves as Head of Islamic Perspectives on Disruptive Technology at CSR. His interdisciplinary work bridges the sciences and the social sciences, with a particular focus on ethical, religious, and societal engagements with emerging technologies.

Dr Rizwan is the author of six books, has published over 20 research papers in peer-reviewed, high-impact international journals, and has written more than 200 popular science articles on diverse themes. As a science communicator, he frequently lectures on the intersections of science, religion, and society, including themes such as gender and religion, environmental ethics, and religious discourse in contemporary contexts.

His primary research interests include the intersection of science, religion, and society, as well as disruptive technologies and ethics.

In addition to his role at CSR, Dr Rizwan serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering at Nagpur University. Prior to joining CSR, he worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad; as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Jazan University, Saudi Arabia; and as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Biotechnology at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Past Directors

Dr Mohammad Rafat
(2016–2021)

Dr Rafat, a native of Khurja in Bulandshahr district of Western UP, completed his MSc in Physics from Aligarh Muslim University in 1976 and earned his PhD from IIT Kanpur. He joined Jamia Millia Islamia in 1985, a year after obtaining his doctorate. Dr Rafat retired as a Professor in the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities from Jamia Millia on July 31, 2020.

Dr Rafat authored over 15 books on various subjects in both Urdu and English. From 2009 to 2019, he also served as the honorary editor of Zindagi-e-Nau, an Islamic research magazine.



Dr. Yusuf Amin
(2021–2023)

Dr Yusuf Amin, MD, is a former professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. With additional specialisation in psychology, he has extensively published works in the fields of biomedical sciences and Islamic psychology. Dr Amin has delivered over 200 lectures at prestigious global institutes.
