Indian History Writing Tradition

The Council on Legal Studies, Centre for Study and Research (CSR), New Delhi, collaborated with the Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, Kerala, to organize an International Seminar on ‘Review and Reform: Exploring the Colonial Legacy within the Indian Legal System’ on March 17, 2024, at the Department of Law, AMU-Malappuram Centre, Kerala, India. The seminar tackled a broad spectrum of issues, ranging from Legal Theory to Criminal Laws to Personal Laws, with a keen focus on how the notion of reform is portrayed in legal discourse from various angles. Topics covered included the History of the Criminal Justice System in India, the History of Muslim Personal Law Application and Reform, and Reforming the Criminal Justice System.

During the event, notable speakers like Professor Faizan Mustafa, renowned scholar and Vice-Chancellor of Chanakya Law University, Patna, highlighted the enduring relevance of laws introduced during the British colonial administration, such as the Indian Penal Code of 1860. Keynote speaker Dr. K.C Sunny set the stage for insightful discussions.

The seminar also witnessed the release of a book titled "Search and Seizure of Electronic Devices: A Brief Explainer on Existing Laws and Proposed Changes", published by CERT. Attendees, including researchers, students, and faculty members from across the nation, engaged in vibrant discussions, enriching the dialogue on legal reform within the Indian context.
